Are our cards vegan?
Yes. The toner on our press is declared free of animal products by the manufacturer, and the glue on our envelopes is plant-based. Here’s exactly what that covers, and what the paperwork says.
What’s in your cards.
The toner that makes the picture and the glue on the envelope are where animal products usually come into a printed card. Here’s where ours stand, and exactly what the paperwork covers.
The toner
Every card is printed on our Konica Minolta digital press. In June 2019 Konica Minolta signed a vegan declaration for us, on The Vegan Society’s standard form, confirming that the manufacture and development of the products and ingredients it supplies to Redcliffe Imaging “do not and have not involved the use of any animal product, by-product or derivative”. The Vegan Society takes “animal” to mean the whole animal kingdom — all vertebrates and all multi-cellular invertebrates.
Cross-contamination
Konica Minolta also confirmed that it strives diligently to minimise cross-contamination from animal substances used in its other, non-vegan products, as far as is reasonably practicable. That’s an honest best-efforts commitment rather than a guarantee — the same position most manufacturers take.
The envelopes
Our envelope supplier confirms that the glues used on our envelopes are plant-based.
What the declaration is — and isn’t
It’s the manufacturer’s own signed declaration, made on The Vegan Society’s form. It isn’t Vegan Society trademark registration of our cards, so we don’t print the Vegan sunflower logo on them — and if you sell your cards, please don’t add it yourself. You’re welcome to tell your customers what’s on this page.
Responsibly sourced card
Our card comes from a mill certified to the ISO 14001 environmental management standard, and every card is printed in the UK on board from fully sustainable forests.
Biodegradable sleeves
Choose sleeves made with NATIVIA® bio-based film — compostable, biodegradable and recyclable — instead of polypropylene. Sleeves & extras
Plastic-free card catchers
A small sticker holds card and envelope together with no sleeve at all — less waste, and a tidy finish on the shelf.
Common questions
Are your greeting cards vegan?
Yes, as far as the printing goes. The toner on our Konica Minolta press is declared by the manufacturer not to involve any animal product, by-product or derivative, and our envelope supplier confirms the glues are plant-based.
Is there any risk of cross-contamination?
Konica Minolta strives diligently to minimise cross-contamination from animal substances used in its other, non-vegan products, as far as is reasonably practicable. It’s a best-efforts commitment rather than a guarantee.
Can I call my cards vegan when I sell them?
You can tell your customers the inks are declared free of animal products by the press manufacturer and that the envelope glues are plant-based. Please don’t use The Vegan Society’s sunflower logo — that needs its own trademark registration, which our cards don’t carry.
